Professional development news for artists and creative workers committed to expanding their business know-how.
In the Bookstore you'll find books that Adrienne Fritze uses, or has used, in building her arts-based businesses. For her, they have provided invaluable insight, inspiration, encouragement and a success path to follow. Occasionally included is a book recommended from another source she respects. If you have questions about any of these, e-mail Adrienne at a@workingartistsonline.com
Adrienne has also added some "fun" stuff, such as art supplies and games she enjoys playing that are fun and have a little something to leave behind in understanding human systems a bit better. Adrienne's favorite is the Roller Coaster Tycoon series, but she's also a HUGE fan of the SimCity series... Your recommendations are welcome!!!
Working Artists LLC
- Working Artists Network
[WAN]
WAN was created to provide working artists with a couple of really important resources:
- Services that self employed fine artists need to function in the modern world of Capitalism (yes, we wrote the big bad "C" word!) - such as: health care insurance; event liability coverage; professional services — legal, accounting, tax and financial planning, marketing and sales assistance, PR and more; and
- Discounts on some of those services, as well as office and art supplies, office furniture, books, car rentals, and more.
In addition to these services and discounts, WAN also serves as a public policy advocate on local, state and national issues related to being a solopreneur in the arts or creative industries.
Our focus is empowerment through choice and clear understanding of those options, and our committment to you is that we will provide you with the most current information on the issues that matter to you and affect you the most.
Currently there is one community studio space, and two private studios / creative office spaces available. Click on Studios to learn more and apply for a space today.
- Gallery Program
The Working Artists Gallery [WAG] has shown the work of some of Portland's most exciting emerging artists and performers in Portland today, as well as the work of socially conscious artists from other parts of the country. Artists like: Chris Haberman, Jennifer Mercede, Troy McCray, Trevor Gray, Amerinda Alpern and Joroko. And cutting edge group exhibits such as Chance Meetings, Sarah and Justin Boss' Artist Auditions, and Trophy.
Check out WAG's Current Exhibit by visiting http://www.workingartistsonline.com/gallery.html
Starting in 2008, WAG is available for rent as an exhibition space for individuals or groups, and as a training tool for artists who want to learn the basics of curation, exhibit installation, lighting, promotions and event management. the space will be made available for these purposes 6 months out of the year.
To learn more about this new training program we're calling "Exhibit in a Box" for visual artists, send an e-mail to wag@workingartistsonline.com
- Commercial Curation
This is an exhibit and art collections program for businesses that see value in using the arts to communicate, explore and embody the essence and values of their organizations. Look for Calls for Art form this program as its existance becomes better known. To learn more click on Commercial Curation.
Self Employed Creative Professionals [SECP]
Self-Employed Creative Professionals are the strategic planners, writers, photographers and designers who create advertising and marketing buzz, plan and design websites, and develop content and images for effective communications. Our members range from recent graduates to seasoned professionals who have built a successful business around the creative work they love.
SECP strives to be a hub for creative talent — a resource for both creative independents and the business community they serve. SECP has a three-part mission:
- To create a community for Portland’s self-employed creatives to share their expertise and save on essential business services and products;
- To foster collaborative relationships through which members can team up for projects and provide a fuller range of creative services;
- To promote SECP members’ services to the broader business community.
